The 77 Masha (Heavenly Gates) date back in Saijo Inari's past. This temple was once a functioning Shinto Shrine and many deities were enshrined here. Latter this shrine would be turned into a Buddhist Temple. Saijo Sama would appear to the founder of this temple as a protector of the Lotus Sutra and its followers. The deities already at this temple were kept in the precincts of this temple to this day. As the New England Sangha has a relationship to Saijo Inari, Saijo Sama, Hachi Dai Ryuoh, San Men Daikokuten and all the 77 Masha (heavenly gates) are enshrined here.
Located in the heart of Haverhill, Nichiren Buddhist Sangha of Greater New England is a Buddhist Temple. It is a peaceful oasis in the midst of a bustling city. A place of peace, mindfulness and meditation. Our temple is easily accessible by public transportation and is surrounded by beautiful gardens, the board walk on the Merrimack river and many green spaces.
